Review: Willing and Able by Jude Mason, Jenna Byrnes

Phaze Binary Stars: Willing and Able

Co-authored with Jude Mason

Colt Willing never expected to be a key player in a drug-running operation. Before he can get out, he's determined to release the hold the organization has on Jonathan, the man he's grown to love. Jonathan has ties that bind him to drug-lord Nigel Caprice, and breaking the bonds may prove too difficult for Willing to tackle alone.

Detective D.J. Able is determined to bring Caprice to his knees. Backed by his partner, Bryan Stokes, Able and his team are out for justice, and retribution for the loss of one of their own. When push comes to shove, Able discovers that even the best laid plans sometimes go astray, and the men end up in a fight for their very lives. (m/m)

I obtained this information from Ms. Jenna Byrnes webiste!

*~*I receives this book from Night Owl Romance for the purpose of my honest review.*~*

*~*So, all thoughts and comments regarding this book are solely mine!*~*

I do not judge short stories on the rush of their relationships, because they are just that - short stories. So, yes the relationships always could have been drawn out more, yea it seems like they fall in love to fast and of course the story could have been made longer... but it is a short story. So with that said.... here is my review...

This story is roughly about 55 pages long... You get two stories in one. So, you are figuring out that each story is about (give or take) about 25 pages a piece. So, I can not give the review I normally I do because I do not want to give away to much of the books.

I do have to say that is was my first book by Jude Mason. For sure, this will not be my last.
These are two awesome writers that have combined their skills together.

In Ms. Jenna's story, Willing, Colt Willing is a man bent on protecting those he loves, no matter what side of the law they are on. What side of the law is Colt on? Being on the wrong side is a very dangerous side to play on... especially when the man you love is working for the top dog of the wrong side. But at what cost would you give of yourself to protect your self or family?
Ms. Jenna's story is very riveting. The drama builds with paragraph you read. Wanting to know what happens will drive you to the end.

A peek into the story..."Heart near bursting, Colt looked into his man’s eyes. The expression he read on the handsome face told him everything he needed to know. “I love you,” he uttered for the first time, and held his breath, waiting for a reaction."

In Ms. Jude's story, well it ties to Ms. Jenna story. These two author play very well together. This is the continuation of the story Ms. Jenna created and sucked us into. This is the story of Willing's ex-partner Detective D.J. Able. With a fallen officer and the clock ticking, how does one man try to make it all balance?Able is a determined man and you will see just how determined he is... Ms. Jude keeps the momentum rolling in this story. You will see how all sides of the law collide and how things get done.

Another peek into Able's story... "Able checked his watch. The man was right. They’d both been on overtime for six hours. Captain wasn’t likely to complain, not under the circumstances, but if they fucked up because they were too tired to think straight, he’d hang them both, by the balls. “Yeah, you’re right. The next shift’ll be glad to take over.”

I commend these ladies for a story well done. The stories complimented each other very well.

  3. Hi Cecile :)
Yes they sure do not have a lot of time to fall in love, but like you say it's a short story. And it does sound nice

  5. Host! Hey honey! Aw thanks! It is very hard to write a review on a short story... but this one in general because it was about 25 pages for each story. I do have to say I love how Jenna and Jude work together on their books. The flow was effortless and nice. The pace picked up where the other left off. They work very well together!~
Thanks for coming over honey, I know how crazy things have been!

Eyre!~ Hey there girlie!! How are you! I know you must be so excited that school is out! Whew!

Blodeuedd! Hey honey! And I promise to make it to your place to sing your Happy Blogversary to you! =)
Thanks for peeking in to see what is going on over here! This was a very good book to read. The stories matched well together. And the men... Oh man. A man in uniform!

Sweet, honey! Hey hon! Thanks for coming in today!! It is always nice to see you! Thanks for the words! It is hard to do justice to short stories. And then you have those that criticize it for the fact that the romance was all of sudden there or things like that... it is a short story. Of course it is going to happen quickly. Consider a short story like quickie sex! They might look at is differently now! =)

Hope all is well for you ladies! Have a great day!

  6. You do a great job reviewing the short stories. You give enough for us to want to read it but don't give anything away at the same time.

  8. Hey C!

You make a very good point about a fast pace of romance in such short stories...25 pages is not a lot of room for building a story...so you're talking a complete story done in paragraphs not chapters.

Doing such a short story takes a lot of talent...I know I could not do what these two ladies have done in so little space! Koodos to them and their talents!

    Awesome review...as always!

    Big hugs

Oh you so got to read more of Jude Mason! I started reading Jude's books when she was at her first pub that's closed now and been following her. I'm behind with her books, she writes lots, but looking forward to catching up soon. Jenna is new to me . I read lots of short stories too and I love them as much as I love reading full novels. I just go with my mood of what I want to read. I love how the two titles blend together and their story (blurb). I must plan for this one too! You do beautiful reviews! Congrats Jude and Jenna on the release and review!

  11. elaing8! Hey honey! Thank you. It is rather difficult to review such short books... but I believe that even short books should get just as much dedication as a regular novel. I mean the authors work just as hard, if not harder due the amount of story they have to deliver to us in the number of pages. So, my hats off to these two wonderful authors for doing a great job!!
And besides, I love being a tease!! =)

Tricia!! Hey honey!!! How have you been!?! I hope all is well! Begging huh... I kinda like that!

Houston A.W. Knight!! Hey honey!!!! Oh gosh, I have missed you!! Nothing major going on over here. Will try to give you a shout out this week!
It is true, my hats go off to these authors that do a remarkable job at storytelling within 10-50 even 100 pages. It is awesome!

Caffey! Hey honey!!!! Oh gosh, I went over to your place! I have missed ya honey! But I am glad that you are back! Ohhhh read more Jude you say... I will be getting right on that one then!! =) I do love her work with Jenna, so it would make sense that I would read her stand alone books. Thanks for the heads up. You know I love learning more about new authors! Especially when they are a fave of a friend!
You are too kind my friend, thank you!

Chris! Hey hon, I figured it would be! =)

  12. My eyes keep floating back to the cover...which has some nice man-candy *grin* Don't you just love when an author duo can give you that one-two punch? I love these short stories during a car ride to my parents up north or my in-laws down south (in the Netherlands that is LOL) Both authors I definitely need to try Cecile *grin*
