Review: Trouble In The Making by Lissa Matthews *Ellora's Cave*

Trouble in the Making
Coming May 3, 2013 from Ellora’s Cave

Johnny Trouble. He’s a commanding presence in leather and tattoos, both on stage and off. He’s had more than his fair share of groupies and lovers, but it’s time for a change and he reconnects with the one woman whose memory has driven him crazy since high school. Liz.
She’s a quiet, shy romance author who likes her comfort zones. But when Johnny comes back into her life after years of living in the spotlight, Liz’s private fantasies shift into overdrive and she nervously asks him to fulfill them.
Just one weekend is all she proposes, but the sparks flying between them when Johnny touches her aren’t temporary. She’s the particular brand of trouble he wants in his bed, bent over, or crawling all over him. Forever.
He just has to convince her by any means necessary…

I received this book from Ellora's Cave for my honest thoughts and review... Here goes!

For those of you that know me... and those that don't this is my little statement about short books.... I do not judge short stories on the rush of their relationships, because they are just that - short stories. So, yes the relationships always could have been drawn out more, yea it seems like they fall in love to fast and of course the story could have been made longer... but it is a short story. So with that said.... here is my review..

I am a huge Lissa Matthew's fan. If you come to my place you will know this! Her stories take me away to a place that - sometimes, I need to be. The world she allows me to escape to is riveted with lust, passion, desire... Her stories are filled with men that will make you want to lick them from head to toe and women that will do just that for you... She gives me everything I need for my heart to race, my panties.... well... Let's just say that she lives up the Naughty part!

If you have had a rocker dream... this story will be for you! The name says it all... Johnny Trouble. He is larger than life and not afraid to go after what he wants. He has made all of his own dreams come true... but there is one dream he has yet to make come true. But being able to convince her that she is what his dreams are made of - might prove to be the hardest dream to make real.

Liz is a woman who is shy by all means... She allows herself to come out her shell to do her daily job but other than teaching or doing workshops - she does not like to be in the public eye. She lives vicariously through the novels she writes. She knows that life is more than just her normal, boring routine... but to put herself out there might mean rejection. Is she ready to deal with the rejection that might come from putting herself out there.. There is only one way to find out.... Trouble here she comes..

This is a hot little story but I actually was looking for more trouble with these two... because I saw so much naughty potential with these two.... Spankings, bondage, etc... I love Liz's sassy mouth and Johnny's dom side....  But this was a sweet journey of two people finding their way together... after all the years between them... However, I will say that I was looking for a little more when the ending came... I wanted more of Johnny and Lizzie and was a little sad to see it end...

*Giveaway & Guest Post* Murphy's Law by Jennifery Lowery *Lyrical Press*

Murphy’s Law
By Jennifer Lowery

Blurb:

Home is the last place Jon Murphy can go. After being held captive in Tazbekistan, he returns to the States only to find he can’t face his mom and sisters with what he did while he was a prisoner, so he retreats to the mountains.

Widow Sara Sheldon has made a lifetime of mistakes and is now running scared from her husband’s powerful family, who are determined to take her daughter away from her. When her little girl goes missing in the Rockies, Sara enlists the only help she can find: a gruff recluse with tracking skills to admire and a body to covet.

A storm strands Sara and her daughter at Murphy’s cabin, leaving her no choice but to hope her in-laws don’t catch up while she plans where to run next. Murphy resents the invasion of his privacy, but can’t seem to keep his mind--or his hands--off Sara. How can she stand to look at him, with all his scars? He’s not nearly as honorable as she might think…only enough to make sure she’s safe, and then he’ll go back to being alone, the way he should be.

A Lyrical Press Contemporary Romance

Ladies and Gents of the Lair, please put together a warm welcome for Ms. Jennifer! I have given the Lair for the day ;) Enjoy! And be sure to get to the end... there is a giveaway offer!

Hi Cecile and all you fabulous readers out there *waves* Thank you so much for having me today! My contemporary romance, Murphy’s Law, released this month so I’m very excited to be here! Thank you so much for sharing it with me!!

This book is very special to me. Not only because it is the story of my heart, but because I signed the contract with Lyrical Press on my birthday! Yep! It was the best birthday ever!

Murphy’s Law was the third manuscript I ever finished. I wrote it never expecting it to see the light of day. I knew I was lacking GMCs in my characters in my writing and I wanted to learn so I set my mind to character building and learning the craft. I bought Debra Dixon’s Goal, Motivation, Conflict and it changed my life! And my writing! Murphy’s Law was my attempt to build deeper characters. Hence, my practice run and the reason it was never to be read by anyone but myself, lol.

But, something happened as I began writing Murphy and Sara. I fell in love with them from page one and just couldn’t stop writing! They haunted my dreams. I couldn’t stop thinking about them. Couldn’t stop writing. I finished the first draft in only a couple months (80k). The more I wrote the more I fell in love with them. The more I learned.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I messed up. Big time, lol. This manuscript went through six edits before I signed a contract. Ah, the life of a pantser, but I love it. Completely. I don’t want you to believe that I just read a book, sat down and wrote a book that sold. Absolutely not!! Blood, sweat and tears went into this book and I don’t regret one single moment of that journey. Murphy and Sara were so worth it. I hope when you read their story that you think so too!

I was lucky enough to final in the Golden Heart with this manuscript back in 2006 and final in another local RWA chapter contest with it. But that was before the edits that finally got it contracted almost eight years after I wrote it.

So my advice, don’t ever give up on the story of your heart or any of those stories you have hidden under your bed or in a drawer!! It just may be the story you sign a contract for on your birthday. So don’t give up! Follow your dreams!

Thank you for having me today, Cecile!! I just want to send out a big THANK YOU to all my readers out there! Without you I wouldn’t be here. My wish is to one day meet each and every one of you so I can personally thank you for your generosity and support!
All my best,
Jennifer

Murphy sat at the kitchen table, half in the shadows created by the soft light glowing above the stove, hair tousled from sleep. Naked to the waist. A bottle of amber liquid sat in front of him, an empty glass in his hand. Her gaze landed on his muscled shoulders and trailed across his tanned chest. So much for getting him out of her mind. Now she had the real thing to dream about. Looking at the dark hairs that veed down his chest and disappeared behind the table, she decided he’d been right. He was a dangerous man.

She tore her gaze away from temptation and looked at the granite lines of his face. Beneath the hardness of his expression, something haunting lingered. Drawn, she circled the table to the opposite end.

Murphy met her eyes with coldness that should have sent her running for the safety of her room, but she remained standing in place. He wanted to chase her away. This time she wasn’t running.
“Mind if I join you?” She grabbed a glass and from the cupboard and reached over his shoulder for the bottle.

His hand snaked out and wrapped around hers, preventing her from pouring a drink.

“I mind,” he growled.

“Well, get over it. I need a drink.”

Scowling, he let go of her hand and allowed her to pour a glass for herself. She refilled his glass next, set the bottle on the table, moved to the chair beside him and sat, lifting her glass.

“Cheers.” She brought the glass to her lips. His gaze as she drained the glass made her fight the urge to cough as the fiery liquid burned its way down her throat. Seconds later she felt the familiar warming sensation as it numbed her insides. Her eyes filled with tears. She blinked them away and reached for the bottle.

Murphy held it away from her. “What are you doing?”

“Having a drink. I’m not in the mood for warm milk tonight.”

His eyes darkened and narrowed. “You don’t strike me as the drinking type.”

She wasn’t, but tonight it sounded good. Maybe it would soothe away her problems and make her forget how screwed-up her life was. Talking about Kent earlier had brought back painful memories. She didn’t want to feel that misery anymore.

“Maybe you don’t know my type,” she said.

He studied her closely for a moment before rubbing a hand over his face. “Go back to bed, Sara. Sleep it off.”

“I don’t want to sleep it off. I’m tired of thinking about it.”

Maybe it was the whisky, or his naked chest, or the part of her that had been dormant for six years coming back to life. More than anything she wanted to discover it with Murphy, her strong, scarred hero.

She rose to her feet. He watched warily as she stepped in front of him and positioned herself between him and the table. He leaned back in his chair and sent her a thunderous look.

“You and I are alike in many ways, Murphy,” she said softly. “We’ve both lost pieces of ourselves we can’t ever get back and it has forced us into a life of loneliness and solitude. I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of being alone.”

He pinned her with a hard glare. “I’m not what you want. Go back to your room before I do something we’ll both regret in the morning.”

His harshly spoken words sent little electrical shocks through her body.
“I’m tired of people telling me what I want.”

*Author Interview & Tour Wide Giveaway* Coming Unbound by Lacey Savage *Goddess Fish Tour*

Coming Unbound

by Lacey Savage

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Ginny and Cole have struggled to connect intimately since before their marriage. When Cole suggests they surprise each other with the most sexually daring things they can dream up for their anniversary, Ginny reluctantly musters every ounce of courage she possesses to get nipple piercings.
Cole’s surprise?
He’s turned their suburban basement into a dungeon—and hired a sexy Dom to teach them the art of BDSM.
Desperately in love with his wife, Cole’s aware of sensitive sexual demons in Ginny’s past, and will try anything to beat them. Whips, toys, ménage play with the Dom…all these and more could help Ginny find pleasure, break through her issues.
Or, if they’re not careful, possibly just break Ginny.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Why don't you tell us a little about yourself.... Something that we cannot Google about you, lol!

Oh boy, talk about putting me on the spot right off the bat… Okay, how about this? I got married at the ripe old age of 18. And no, I wasn’t pregnant. Nor was it an arranged marriage. But I can say that it’s been 14 years, and I still consider it the best decision I ever made. What can I say? When it’s meant to be, it’s meant to be. Is it any wonder I write romance for a living?

Tell us a little about your book?

COMING UNBOUND is an unconventional erotic romance. It’s about a married couple struggling with a few issues in the bedroom. I have a feeling many of us have been there… But this particular husband, well, he decides to raise the stakes a little, and tells his wife he’d like them both to surprise each other with the most sexually daring things they can think of for their anniversary. She gets nipple piercings. As for him? Well, he turns their suburban basement into a BDSM dungeon, and hires a Dom to teach them what to do with all their new toys. No half-measures for this guy!

How much emotion does it take from you to write?

It depends on the scene I’m writing at any given time, but I really throw myself into my stories, so it’s not unusual for me to get teary-eyed, or cackle maniacally while I’m writing. It’s a good thing I write with the door closed.

What is your favorite part of the book?

I loved writing the scene where Ginny comes home and discovers Cole’s surprise. Her reaction to the basement-turned-dungeon was a lot of fun to write… as was everything else that comes after!

You can only pick 3 words for your main characters..what would they be? *to describe your main characters*

Frustrated. Devoted. Loyal.

Which was the easiest character to write and the hardest ~ and why??

The easiest was Ginny. I could relate to her so much while I was writing this book, and loved being in her head while I told her story. The hardest was Cole, because I wanted to show him being devoted and caring, but without having him come across as a pushover. And since we don’t get any scenes from Cole’s point of view, that was a tough balancing act.

What are you currently working on?

I’m currently in between projects. This doesn’t happen often, so I’m enjoying the short break while I can!

What's one thing that you enjoy about writing?

Just one? Hmm… I’d have to say that what I love most is getting to know my characters and having them come to life on the page. They surprise me so often, doing things I would have never expected but which seem ultimately right for them. I love that!

Since we're cover hussies....what was your first impression of your cover?

I loved it! The artist captured the love and devotion between Cole and Ginny beautifully. It was exactly what I was hoping for.

What do you prefer ebooks or paperbacks?

I love both, but these days, I lean toward ebooks. I really like reading dozens of samples to find the books that hook me and refuse to let go. If I had to buy the paperbacks to do the same thing, I’d go broke!

Is there a genre you would like to write but are a little apprehensive to try?

Oh boy, yes… Epic fantasy (like George R.R. Martin’s GAME OF THRONES series). It’s my favorite genre to read, but I’m terrified of writing it.

Okay.... personal time!!!! Oh yeah, I go there... Hahah... If you thought you were safe... Nah... Forgot it... Not a chance! We will start off slow and easy, I promise!

What is on your night stand/dresser?

My iPad, a lamp, my glasses, a pen, and a highlighter.

What are you listening to you right now?

My husband, having a very loud phone conversation in the next room.

What are you reading right now?

Nalini Singh’s ANGELS’ BLOOD, which I’m absolutely loving!

What is your favorite season? Holiday?

Favorite season – summer. Favorite holiday – New Year’s Eve.

And what has been your best b-day present ever??

My husband gives me the “gift of shopping” every year, and I couldn’t ask for anything better. He basically hands me a wad of cash and lets me go crazy in a mall. :) I’m a lucky, lucky girl!

Hard and Quick Time! Don't think... Just answer! Okay, before we go this route, I will get us a refill on our drinks... I will be right back...

EXCERPT

I groped for my cocktail glass then drained it. “Now, are you going to answer my question or not?”

She pursed her lips for a moment before replying. “Men want whores.”

My stomach bottomed out. That wasn’t at all the answer I’d expected. It went against everything I believed.

I motioned for her to go on with a flick of my trembling hand.

“They also want a woman who’s confident in her own skin. Someone secure enough in her sexuality to tease them, taunt them, play with them.”

The blood drained from my face. That wasn’t me at all. I liked sex well enough, but Cole was the one who initiated our romantic encounters almost all the time.

“What they don’t want,” Donna continued, “is someone who just lies there and takes it.” She sipped her martini and furrowed her brows. “Why are you asking me this?”

I sucked in a breath and considered lying or changing the subject. But my heart pounded hard against my breastbone, and I needed to know more. “Cole wants us to spice things up for our anniversary,” I blurted. “And I have no idea what to do.”

“Is that all?” Donna laughed, the humor crinkling her eyes. “Geez, girl, you scared me. You were so serious. I thought you were getting a divorce or something.”

I swallowed hard but said nothing. A divorce might not be too far off. Cole had married a woman with little sexual experience and no interest in learning anything beyond the particulars of inserting Tab A into Slot B, and I couldn’t help but wonder if he had a Lilian of his own. Cole worked as a technician at a medical laboratory. Had someone there already offered to hop on a photocopy machine and spread her legs for him?

The thought soured my stomach. I set my empty glass aside and gripped Donna’s hands. “Help me.”

Her eyes widened. She squeezed my fingers in a supportive gesture, and I was insanely grateful she wasn’t laughing.

“Okay, well, you must have some idea. Think about a fantasy of yours… Something you haven’t gotten to act out but would like to.” I must have looked completely blank, because Donna sighed. She signaled a waiter who was passing by. “We’re going to need more alcohol.”.
