Submitting: Doing that Thing You Don't Want to Do

In most erotic BDSM fiction, submission is primarily about sexual play - it's titillating, sometimes surprising, and usually hot. And it’s almost always about something that the submissive really wants to have done to her, or ultimately enjoys in some way.
But I think that true submission is somewhat different: submission lies in accepting that you may be told to do something you don’t enjoy, and you have to go ahead and do it. For submissives in the real world—and I am one and associate with many, so I hope I have a grasp on this concept—submission is often the bowing to things that take us out of our comfort zone in a drastic way. When your Dominant tells you to do something, the act of submitting is to do it. But what if he tells you to do something you don't like? What if you hate being tickled—really hate it—and yet he wants to string you up and tickle you as a punishment? You might balk, wheedle, complain, but, if you really want to be submissive, you submit. You know it's something you will truly despise, but you do it anyway. Assuming you have a responsible and sane Dominant, he might take you out of your comfort zone, but he won't be asking you to do something that is illegal, harmful or immoral.
That’s how I try to portray submission in Master’s Hunt, where the central love element is a sado-masochistic relationship among one man (the Dominant party) and his two women (the masochistic submissives). Neither of the submissives always gets to do fun stuff. It can get downright uncomfortable for them at times. But because they value submission and they value their ability to give over control totally (which is a courageous thing to do), they do it. They submit. Living up to their end of the bargain is something to be proud of. Their rewards are both tangible and intangible, but the greatest reward they get is the love and respect of their Dom.
To me, submission means doing things you don't want to do because you've agreed to submit to someone. It's an exhilarating and challenging part of a D/s (BDSM) relationship and one that is often misunderstood in fiction today.
