The Blurb:

Some lovers never leave you...

Twenty years ago she had her whole life spread out before her like a mesmerizing map. She was Bess Walsh, a fresh-scrubbed, middle-class student ready to conquer the design world. And she was taken. Absolutely and completely.

But not by Andy, her well-groomed, intellectual boyfriend who hinted more than once about a ring. No. During that hot summer as a waitress and living on the beach, she met Nick, a dark haired, local bad boy. He was, to put it mildly, not someone she could take home to Daddy.
Instead, Nick became her dirty little secret; a fervent sexual accomplice who knew how to ignite an all-consuming obsession she had no idea she carried deep within her.
Bess had always wondered what happened to Nick after that summer, after their promise to meet again. And now, back at the beach house and taking a break from responsibility, from marriage, from life, she discovers his heartbreaking fate--and why he never came back for her. Suddenly Nick's name is on her lips...his hands on her thighs...dark hair and eyes called back from the swirling gray of purgatory's depths.
Dead, alive, or something in-between, they can't stop their hunger.

She wouldn't dare.

Okay... now for my words!!!

Short Review:

Bess, soon to be a divorced mother of two teenage boys, is dealing with a lot.
Her husband, Andy, is that guy that always screws up a relationship, but gives you those eyes for another chance.
Nick, the lover of some many years ago, who is still haunting Bess's dreams.
Bess and Andy dated while Bess was in high school through college. Everyone thought they were the couple that was perfect. Well, we all know how true that is NOT! I don't care who you are, your relationship is far from perfect. But that is how it looked on the outside to everyone. Until that summer Bess met Nick.
Nick was the bad ass of those days. He was the one every girl wanted, but every mother wanted you to stay away from.
This book was rocky for me to start because each chapter goes from Now - to Then and it keeps flip flopping. I found myself just reading the Then... then coming back to the Now sometimes.
And normally I am NOT a skipper.
Bess annoyed me a little because I felt she had no strong backbone. I wanted to take her and shake her sometimes and say "Hey... WTF???? What are you doing?? Andy cheated on you. And yet you go back!!!!" But that is her downfall. She wants everyone else to be happy; and sometimes that costs her. But you will see... that these characters are weaved together in such a way, that it will take you back to those days when you had options of who to date and when the decisions you made affected the outcome of everyone.

Now on for my more thorough review!

The Main Players:

Bess is going through a divorce and trying to adjust to what her new life is going to be like. She moves out of her old house, into the beach house her parents passed down to her. She spent her summers at this house when she was in college. The memories, the lover, the heartbreak, the sea.... all comes back to her! The sea engulfs her, mind, body and soul. She is a stable person, capable of holding her own. She is a person though, that does not like to move outside of her comfort zone. And when forced to step out of that zone... what will happen?

Nick is your bad ass. He is the one your Mom warned you about. Everyone in his world has betrayed his trust, love and loyalty. He is such a charmer that you immediately fall in love with him. Bess comes into his world and he sees hope - or a glimmer of it. He is a very passionate and sexual man. If bad boy, tortured soul is what you are looking for... Then met Nick! His body alone is made to be sex on a stick and when you read his scenes... Wow, you better have a glass of ice ice ice water near you... Because Nick will take you Deeper than you have ever been...

Andy is Bess's soon to be ex-husband. Now, I did not care for him at all... From the beginning of the story... in the Now and Then, I did not like him. In the Then, he was known to play the field but swears to Bess that he loves her. You know the type: you are good enough to have my bank account because I trust you, but you are not good enough to be naughty with. He is one of those. Once a cheater, always a cheater. I can't even say something nice about him. But believe me, I wanted to slash his tires, put sugar in his gas tank and some few other things that I would rather not mention... **yea, I am evil**

Eddie: He is my sex on a stick man!!! When we meet him from the Then, he is the "geek" of the story; pimple faced, shy, fluster very easily, and very self-conscious. He is in love with Bess and there is nothing he would not do for her. I love him, from geek to man, I love him. He is the one you need to keep you eye out for. He is the rock in this story. Not where I thought it would have came from, but when I saw the how it was coming... I fell!!!

My Thoughts:

Bess bothered me. I felt that she was not as strong as I would have like to have seen her. Having gone through a divorce myself, I know how rough the situation can be and especially with children. Bess has two teenage boys that she is trying to "spare" them the burnt of the divorce. She does not want to disrupt their lives. She is a people pleaser person; she trys to keep everyone else happy or comfortable, but does not consider herself to much. She let Andy walk over her time and time again. I wanted to b*tch slap her and ask her WTH are you thinking!?:!?! While she was in college, she lived at her families beach house and worked part time. I did admire her for that. She did what was needed, she pushed through life when she kinda had no one, but (gessh) Andy there with her. Until she met Nick.... the life she thought she knew, slowly started to slip away like the sands of the beach themselves. She was pushed out of her comfort zone. And we all know how we are felt when we are pushed out of comfort zone... it is not nice.
I will put a twist on this... Eddie was my hero in this book. You will see why, I promise. He was the rock throughout the whole book.
Now, this book deals with things of the past that we need to let go of. It is about things we never say that we should say. You never know when you day will come... and the question you need to ask is "do people know what you really meant to say? do they know how much you love them or how much you hurt them??"
Holding on to the past does not change our future. What you decide to do with what you holding is another story. Bess is literally holding onto to something that is no longer. Nick.

Hussy purring over the sex scenes. They were amazing, and there were a lot of them!! But this book is an erotic novel. But at the same time, to me this was more a love story than an erotic novel.

The cover meant more to me when I finished the book. It really captures the story. This book really is a deep book... pun intended! Nick is her sea... sea of lost love.

The blurh:
This month, my name is Mary.
My name is different every month -- Brandy, Honey, Amy...sometimes Joe doesn't even bother to ask -- but he never fails to arouse me with his body, his mouth, his touch, no matter what I'm called or where he picks me up. The sex is always amazing, always leaves me itching for more in those long weeks until I see him again.
My real name is Sadie, and once a month over lunch, Joe tells me about his latest conquest. But what Joe doesn't know is that, in my mind, I'm the star of every X-Rated one-night stand he has revealed to me, or that I'm practically obsessed with our imaginary sex life. I know it's wrong. I know my husband wouldn't understand. But I can't stop.
Not yet.

The Short Summary
Okay, can you say I freaking love this book!!!!! This book is about a true and tried marriage. Adam & Sadie They met in college, the minute she saw him, she knew he was the one she was going to marry; even though he belonged to someone else. His relationship dissolved and they were inseparable from that moment on. They got married and not long after that, he suffered a paraplegic accident. It left him numb from the shoulders on down. Now, when you hit a rough spot in your marriage…. What are your thoughts?? Now imagine hitting the rough spot one year after you were married. If you know me, I love how realistic Megan Hart makes her characters and she DID NOT disappoint in this book. And truth be told, this is the first book that has ever brought me to full tears and loved every minute of it. The tone of this book melted my heart and tore at my soul. Besides Stranger…. This is my FAVORITE book by Megan Hart. This booked rocked my world!!!

The Long Version
Okay… now for the details!!! By the way… there are no spoilers.
However, the details will be not be full like normal because in order to give you my full thoughts… I would have to give you more story… and to give you more story… well… I would give some of the story away and I don’t do that!!! So, I hope what I am fixing to tell you will be enough to sway you to go out, buy this book and fall in love with Sadie, Adam & Joe!

The players

Sadie:
She is a woman after my own heart. First, you need to know that she is a very loyal person and a very devoted wife. There is nothing in this world she would not do for her husband. She has two different sides to her… the façade she puts on for everyone else and the real Sadie who wants so desperately for her world to go back to normal. She doesn’t want to bother people with the facts of her life, and that is what they are facts. Things that can not be changed no matter what. There is a passion that lies within her that has not withered away due to her husbands accident. She is a psychologist. She condemns herself sometimes because she knows the advice that she sometimes gives, is some that she should be taking herself. But life dealt her an unfair hand and she is playing those cards the best way she can. Especially with a husband who is partially unwilling…

Adam: A man full of passion for absolutely everything about and in his life.
Sadie describes Adam this way: "Adam thought and fought with passion burning bright. He was vibrant and alive in a way I envied, admired and coveted. He smoked. He drank. He rode a motorcycle fast on dark roads and had insane hobbies like bungee jumping.. He was brilliant and wild, my Lord Byron, whom Lady Caroline Lamb had called ""mad, bad and dangerous to know.""
The accident did not leave him without emotion or without a heart. He is a good man, I just found in certain ways, he was hard on Sadie. She tries to help him in many different way and be there for him the best she can be. But he does not share his whole world with her, and its hard to want to be somewhere where you don’t feel welcomed… even if it is with your own husband. He takes some of his anger and frustration out on her at times and for that I do not like him. But you never feel sorry for him. He does not want your pity, shame or guilt. He lives among the best equipment made for paraplegics. But he is allowing his wife to willow away.

Joe:
Virtual strangers at first with Sadie. Lunch in the middle of their building complex. Polite, casual conversation. Over time, the conversation takes a turn into the personal side, at least for Joe. He starts discussing his sex life with Sadie. He describes all his escapades to her while they sit and enjoy their lunch together. He knows nothing of Sadie’s personal life, only the façade she gives him. But there is something driving Joe…

The Plot:
A new couple in all areas of their life. So much passion is between these two in the beginning. Sadie and Adam were made for each other. Being married a year and their future as bright as anyone‘s. Then Adams accident puts all things in a new perspective. The things they thought they would be able to do and have time for, no longer exist. Sadie spends all her time between her job and Adam. They received a settlement from the accident that allowed them to be able to hire a housekeeper and a "house" nurse to watch over Adam when Sadie is not home. But still, the housekeeper and nurses are expensive. Therefore, Sadie does not like to ask anyone to stay later than they normally would, because she feels like that is her job; her duty. Her lunch breaks with Joe is about her only "escape" time. The only time where she is not Sadie, wife to a paraplegic.

My Thoughts:
This is a couple of all couples. When life hands us lemons… most of the time we can make a Lemontini (just add vodka.) But seriously, when we hit a rough spot in our marriage what do we do… Sometimes, I just want to change my name and run away! But we stick it out and make the best of it. Well, put your worst day together with a life altering accident… and what would you do? Could you stick around and BE there for that person? Could you handle all that is expected of you? Could you be there, even if you knew your partner could NOT be there for you??
Well, Sadie is that person. The person that will never falter you, will always be there (no matter how much you shove her away). She is a very devoted wife. She tends to absolutely all of Adam’s needs; even if they run her down in the process. She has family that she could go see, but to explain why Adam does not want to get out of the house is a pain in the ass and then you have to defend why you don‘t go without him. Adam has all the capabilities as anyone to get out of the house, he has everything he would need to do so, he just refuses. So, instead of going, she just stays home; its just easier that way. Sometimes she hopes of snuggling with Adam and just simply being with him. But he makes it clear sometimes that he does not want her to be with him. It is like he is pushing her away. I know he was in an accident, but still… She is only human and female, with human feelings, desires, wants and needs. That, in itself, is rough. Being around someone, who at one time desires you nonstop… now hardly wants anything to do with you. It is depressing and leaves you feeling unsatisfied. But I love Sadie, because no matter what, she never gives up. Not even when things get the worst. Joe, to me, is what the doctor ordered for her. He gives her a small piece of normalcy or at least a piece of "non reality". If you call normalcy playing his escapades in your mind as yourself, well then damn, let her have that. Being deprived that much, yes it will make you do some seriously crazy things. I don’t blame her for having Joe in her mind. But she never cheats on her husband!! Devoted!

The Unexpected:
The ending. You will have to read the book. I am sorry. I really did not see that coming. I mean you can see the tension between Joe and Sadie, but I would havenever guessed that was what was going to happen. But OMG, when it did happen, I fell in love. I never expected to CRY. This is the first book in my entire life (yes, I really think so), that made me cry. It was a good cry and man let me tell you, it was worth it.

The Expected:
For me to fall in with the book - duh!!! The realness of the characters and how easy it is to fall in love with them ~ faults and all. If you know me… you know that I will always tell you Megan Hart makes her characters so REAL. So, I expected to fall in love and did I ever. I guess because every marriage has it bad days and good days, I expected this book to break my heart, pick it up and put it back together again. Nothing was sugar coated and I respect Ms. Hart for keeping it real. Even the ugly side of it… it’s all in there!

The Smut Factor:
Before Joe entered the picture, Sadie and Adams relationship was short, but explosive. That was of course, before Adam’s accident. It is to be expected for things not to be the same in that department after a life altering accident. But I give Sadie all the props in the world because she tried everything. She pushed the envelope with Adam. She tried her damnest to keep hold of some of their sexual relationship. Now enters… Joe. He is a very sexual man ~ especially from what we learn of his story times!! Now his stories will definitely get you hot under the collar or in our world… hot under your panties!! It’s an erotic book, so it is not light and easy on the sex… but it is not hard core in your face smutted out either!

What Pleased Me:
The whole book. Come’on… it’s a Megan Hart book… =) What did you expect from me. The whole story line pleased me. The characters, each one… even those that I did not mention, are very real. The story line of Sadie and Adams relationship was the best for me. It was everything a real life marriage is all about. Even with the accident Adam encounters. The good times, the bad, the really bad. But through it all… you will laugh with them, you will cry with them, you will love with them, and you will fall with them. But most of all you will believe in them!

What Displeased Me:
Okay… we are talking about a Megan Hart book and ME!! There was nothing displeasing to me about this book. The only thing had that me for a loop was Joe’s escapades and the name change… I was kinda confused at first… but then I caught on what was going on and what was going on in Sadie’s mind. But other than being confused… nothing displeased me!!!!

The Cover:
I love her covers. This one was no exception. The simple color tone, flesh and black. When you feel broken, are you sure of yourself or not… Look at where her hand is… at the stopping point of going to far. Her legs…crossed ever so slightly, no entrance. You get the feeling that she feels unsure of what the move should be…

Review: Tempted by Megan Hart

I do not give spoilers! Just hints!!! *WINK*
Now, for those of you that know me, know I love Megan Hart’s novels because they are real. The situations and the characters are some of the most realistic ones I have encountered in modern day novels to come. And this one delivers!!! Now. with that being said… I will go on to review Tempted by Megan Hart

Tempted
• Paperback:
• Publisher: Spice (January 1, 2008)
• Language: English
• ISBN-10: 0373605196
• ISBN-13: 978-0373605194

The Blurh:
I had everything a woman could want.
My husband James. The house on the lake. My life. Our perfect life. And then Alex came to visit.
The first time I saw my husband's best friend, I didn't like him. Didn't like how James changed when he was around, didn't like how his penetrating eyes followed me everywhere. But that didn't stop me from wanting him. And surprisingly, James didn't seem to mind.
It was meant to be fun. Something the three of us shared for those hot summer weeks Alex stayed with us. Nobody was supposed to fall in or out of love. I didn't need another man, not even one who oozed sex like honey and knew all the secrets I didn't know, the secrets my husband hadn't shared. After all, we had a perfect life. I loved my husband.
But I wasn't the only one.

The Players and a little history:
For this story, I believe you have to understand the past to understand the future…

Anne - Daughter, sister and wife.
Her mother, the best way I can describe her is a very passive person. She raised her four daughters the best she knew how. Married to an alcoholic husband; although no one around him would call him that to his face. Let‘s just say that he loves his ice tea a little strong on the whisky and light on the tea. Oh, and there are fixing to celebrate thirty years together.
Her sisters… Claire, the baby. She is the rebel out of the whole group! She is the wild child, the only one to stand her ground and open her mouth and say what she feels. Mary, the second youngest, She is the one that makes everyone feel better. She is not married and once wanted to be a nun. Patricia is the oldest and she is the one to put everyone else in their place. She is the perfect mother… bakes cookies, PTA mama, awesome housewife, everything is in it’s order in her house… Nothing is out of place in her life. Now Anne is younger than Patricia. She is the one that keeps everything shiny and polished on the outside. She is the good daughter; she is one that takes care of everyone and everything. Anne use to work at a local counseling center, but the center lost its funding and the doors had to close. So, she has taken to being a housewife very comfortably
Anne is also the one who has everything. Anne is married to James Kennedy. Speaking of her husband, “I liked to watch him sleep, despite the way it sometimes made me want to pinch myself to prove I wasn’t dreaming. That this was my husband, my house, my life. Our perfect life. That there were good things to be had in the world and I had them.”
If I had to describe how I originally felt about Anne, I would tell you that she is a people pleaser. We all know that type. She will do whatever it is to please those she cares for. And that bothered me when I started reading the book. I wanted her to have backbone in the beginning of the story, especially with her sisters. But she just simply did what she had to do to please everyone. But, put her past in this mix… then I understood why she was like she was… With the sisters she has surrounding her and her mother the way she was… she saw it her job to be the good one.

James - Friend, son and husband.
His parents, while we do not hear much about his father… hold on to your hats about his mother… Believe me, if you have a mother-in-law that is nice… You will want to buy her roses after this story. His mother is the matriarch of the family. She is the Queen mother and No One and I mean No One disobeys her orders without feeling her wrath. But James is the only boy… and the baby! So, he does no wrong. And of course the world was and still is given to him on a silver platter. He has two sisters that you don’t hear much about.
I brought “friend” into this category because of Alex Kinnedy. Anne and James have mutual friends together, but we do not hear of them in the story. But this is no ordinary friend… This is his grade school friend that he grew up with. However, when they were 21 yrs old, something happened to their friendship that caused a riff to happen and since then, things have not be the same between them. That is until… Anne!
James loves Anne with his whole heart and there is nothing in the world he would not do for her. He holds the world at her feet. What woman would not love that in a man. But his carefree attitude would irk my nerves sometimes. And the way he would dismiss Anne’s feelings on how his mother treated her… well, I could have slapped the shit out of him. But that is Anne’s fault because she did not have the backbone I wished to see.

Alex Kinney - Friend & Lover
Alex is James’s friend only. At least that is how Anne sees it. She knows that they were the best of friends during school/college life, but something happened to put a dent in their relationship. She would ask her husband about their relationship and that dent but he would not really say much. So, she respected her husbands space and put it aside. Alex is the friend we all love to hate. You know the type… The one who “makes” your husband go out to have a couple of drinks… come in late… smoke ~ even if he doesn’t around you… . But oh my gosh… he is drop dead gorgeous (so is her husband by the way) and he just radiates sexuality!!!! He is sex on a stick!!!! Yea… really! If you think I am kidding… read the book ***haa haa evil grin*** Lover… well the book is called Tempted and the cover has two men and one woman…. *sex on a stick; that I would not mind being on with him*

Now… on to the story…

My thought:
This is an erotic novel… and again... Ms. Hart does definitely deliver!! No argument, hands down ~ EROTIC!! This book is hot, steamy, kinky and everything else in the middle. And I read it in two days… When I read one of her novels… I get no sleep… why you might ask… because I HAVE TO KNOW what happens. I fell in love with the couple as a whole, because come’on… who doesn’t want that type of relationship! They have everything… A house on the lake, he has a great job, they love each other endlessly, they have an awesome sex life, they eventually want to have a baby (but are enjoying the trying process) and a family… well… let’s just leave it at that. But as individuals, I found myself a little aggravated. Like I said earlier, Anne’s personality lacked a backbone. I did not like that. James, again…earlier… I could slap the shit out of for being the typical male in the relationship where his mother was concerned. But they are due their faults; doesn‘t every one have them. Why you might ask that they are due their faults; because Megan makes them real to us… and come’on… I will be the first to tell you that I actually know people like that. ((((That is why I LOVE Megan Hart’s novels)))) But I pushed through the hot steamy sex, I know ~ it was a challenge, but someone had to do it… I pushed right on through that and kept reading. Besides, I had to get to my sex on a stick **evil wicked grin*! Speaking of my sex on stick… My thoughts on him… **wiping drool from chin** ***oh sorry was lost in thought*** Alex, he has a strong personality. He is the one you love to hate. I loved him, at the same time I hated him for coming in the middle (so to speak). But you will understand….

The Plot
This one is hard for me, because it really is not about testing a marriage… or seeing what it is made of. The more I think about it… The plot of the book is a husband trying to give to his wife - what he thinks she wants. Truly, that is what James is trying to do. And no one can fault him for that. He is simply trying to please his wife. Anne, tries to accept what her husband is offering to her. To please him. Like every relationship, sometimes you need a change and James is willing to allow the change to happen… Hell, he even encourages it. But the undertone of what is going on… there is more than one relationship at stake here. James & Anne. James & Sex on a Stick…*cough* I mean Alex. Anne & Alex. Yes… you are following me right. James and Anne… happily married, no problems, no fighting (expect the normal martial ones garbage, maybe) great couple. James and Alex… best friends until one night it got pushed to far but not far enough. Alex and Anne… We all know triangles are never pretty. More than just sex is at stake for a woman. We all know that no matter how hard we try, our hearts get in the way. We are made that way. So what is one to do when your husband and his best friend want to try to make you happy… Who loves who more, does it become a competition of hearts, who wins, who loses, was it worth the lost, was it worth the win, what did you win, does it leave you thinking about what if… are you happy with what’s left?

The Unexpected
Well… Anne’s new attitude! She rocked it out towards the ending! Yea, I loved her… She put some hot sauce on her personality and character and kicked some ass. But the hot sauce is Alex… he pushed her. That is one of the reasons I loved him. He gave her something… Expect, I still felt for her when it came to this relationship with James and Alex. A woman’s heart is a tender thing to mess with. Besides Anne’s attitude, the ending took me for a loop. I never saw that coming… because the three of them came so close to having an almost perfect threesome. Or at least what could be deemed a perfect threesome. And I am still looking for the why?? You will understand.
Another thing that was unexpected for me was Anne’s condition. That took me by surprise.
Oh and I almost forgot… where the idea to have Alex in the mix…came from… That took me by COMPLETE surprise!!!! Oh yea, I am going to make you read this!!

The Expected
Well, James’s mother being a complete bitch… that was expected and never let up! Now, that is one person I could bitch slap the piss out of!!! She never failed to disappoint me. Another thing I found pleasantly expected was James and Anne’s love. It was a constant. I loved that, no matter what their endured, their love was there and evident. Ms. Hart brought it to the pages and let us see the “little” things.
This is during Anne’s parents anniversary party, her dad just finishing giving his thank you speech. He just thanked his daughters for the party. “The crowd sought us out, the four. Patricia, with her arms around Sean’s waist and her kids circling her like satellites. Mary, standing just far enough away from Betts. Claire, deep in conversation with a tall guy I didn’t recognize. And me, looking out from the dubious safety of James’s arms. They seemed to be waiting for something. “”They want you to talk,” James whispered. “”Go ahead.”” “”No,”” I said, but he linked his fingers through mine and squeezed and I somehow found the strength.”” Now, I picked this particular phrase because I am one for the little things… and this is one of those moments and I found myself going “awww… sniff sniff“.

Smut Or No…
This is an erotic novel. Hell… if I described one of the characters as “Sex on a Stick, “ what do you think~!~! I loved it all. It was in your face, but hell… they are married, what would you expect. It was refreshing to see that the woman in the story was not a bottled up, ,maiden that no one has touched her except her husband. She even talked about her past lovers and what they were like ((I even had a good laugh… because oh how true)). It was nice to know that she knew her body before her husband knew it. Knowing one’s body is very important!!!! That part (besides so many others) let me know that she was a true woman. The sex scenes are done very well (again… a signature of Ms. Hart). It was never an “oh no not again” factor ~ because they are married. Some of it was make up sex that I was even taking notes on (haa haa). Very well done!!

What Pleased Me
Towards the end of the book… Funny to read that huh?? I loved it. The beginning was a little rough for me… the ending… kind of left me unsure… but the mid-ending rocked!!! I love the concept of the book. I mean, what man does not fantasize about his wife with someone else… Normally it is another woman… but hey… that was not the way James wanted it. And if you never thought of a threesome in your head… then you are lying (just joking ~ don‘t want to upset anyone… lol) And what woman does not want to please her man. Again, the characters are sooo well like people I know or you know. Anne’s father… my step-dad was an alcoholic that no one would say that to his face. Or I am sure we know someone like Claire, the outspoken, wild, rebels child; Patricia, the “bestest” best of everything.. with a world crumbling around her; James’s Mother… the bitch (I am SURE we all know someone like her). Even though I did not like some of these people, it very much pleased me to see their story unfold for me.

What Displeased Me
The ending. NO, Not in that way, so hit the damn “Process To Checkout” button. I felt Anne was owed more than she got. I am a woman after all… and I just wanted to see everyone happy ~ together. And yes, I know that triangles do not typically work that way… but hey, that does not mean I was not rooting for the ending to go my way.

Cover
Okay… can you say smoking hot! I love her covers!!! It says everything about this book!!! Three hot bodies, one that you can see the wedding band on. The men are engaged in light touching as well. It is just awesome!!! Period.

The blurh:
I pay strangers to sleep with me. I have my reasons...
But they're not the ones you expect. For starters, I'm a funeral director taking over my dad's business. Not exactly the sort of person you'd expect to fork over cash for the lust and urgency only live, skin-to-skin contact can create. Looking at me, you wouldn't have a clue I carry this little secret so close it creases up like the folds of a fan. Tight. Personal. Ready to unravel in the heat of the moment.
Unsurprisingly, my line of work brings me face to face with loss. So I decided long ago that paying for sex would be one of the best (and arousing) ways to save myself from the one thing that would eventually cut far too deep.
But Sam was a mistake. Literally. I signed on to "pick up" a stranger at a bar, but took Sam home instead. And now that I've felt his heat, his sweat and everything else can I really go back to impersonal?Let's just hope he never finds out about my other life...

My Thoughts First:
Now remember, I have not read Broken or Dirty yet...
And this is my first book without any paranormal activity since I don't remember how long!!! With that being said... I can say... this book was awesome.
It is an erotic novel, but it had a hint of class about the way the erotic parts were handled; which I appreciated.
I feel in love with Grace. She seems like a neighbor I would have. Her personality was like that of a "real" person you would know. Her job, which she loves, is a bit strange. Funeral Director...
I find myself rooting for Sam, even though he appears to be a pain in the ass as Grace calls him.
The appeal of the book was really good. I did not want to stop reading, because the thoughts I had as to where the book was headed would change. I wanted to cry at some parts, laughed out loud at some, and just plain wanted to beat the sense into someone at some points. But isn't that what a great books make you want to do.

The Plot:
Grace meets strange (enters Sam), has wow sex and leaves. Grace then gets told she met the "wrong" stranger (enters Jack). Her life, as she thought, was normal up until the moment she met Sam. She continued to see Jack though... that is where I kinda was pulling for the poor guy.
Then her life kinds gets a little crazy; broken washer machine, flooded basement, getting in a wreck with company vehicle, two employees who are falling for each other AT work, a relentless father who does want to "let go" of the business he has handed down to her, a sister who is on her case about bring a guy home to meet the family, one man she wants to bed, and the other she can take to bed without any strings. Okay, except for the last two... when have we had a day like that... To much laundry, cooking, cleaning, playing mom-wife-carpool-employee-and everything else in between - I am raising my hand.
Then she meets an older man who lost his wife and he teaches her about life and more importantly - love.

The Main Players:
Grace - She is a doll. I love her sense of pride in her job. She wants to make sure she does better than her dad can ever imagined. Just picture trying to please your father and now picture it on top of trying to show him you can carry on a family legacy. I love her personality; she is really a quite, tame person but she does fight when she believes in something. You will see. On the aspect of how she views a relationship... I tended to want to give her my shoulder to cry on and tell her all things you would tell a friend to get them going. But she has seen death all her life; people losing the ones they love over and over. That would leave me a bit stale on love too. I mean isn't that what we all want... to find our love and keep it forever. At times, I wanted to slap her and ask her what the hell she was thinking on some of the decisions she made, but overall... it worked for her.

Sam - He was a bit mysterious. At one point, early in the story my idea of him was that he was a loafer and didn't have much in life that got him going. But then the story starts to unfold; with the death of his father being the trigger point for him. We learn that he felt he never lived up to his father's images of him. He never got to prove himself to his dad; which we all know in life, - sucks. But they say the bigger the man, the harder they fall.

Jack - I included Jack in here because I was kinda pulling for him. Jack is one of Grace's fellow "friends." He is the reason she met Sam. Grace teaches him about being a better "friend" and he teaches Grace about going after what you want. He is the one that made her see what she could have.

The Unexpected:
Things unexpected... well... I'm really thinking here...
I didn't really expect to see Sam drink the way he did. He wasn't a drunk or alcoholic, but he used that as a "crutch" to his feeling about his father. Which I guess he character seemed stronger than that to me... but like I said the bigger the man, the harder they fall.
Then there is the sister's rumored affair. I wasn't expecting that. You will have to read to see what I am talking about!!!

The Predictable:
The only thing predictable was that she worked a funeral home and you knew there would be talk of death. That really was it.

Smut Factor:
There really was none that. The sex scenes were descriptive... I mean this is an erotic novel... what would you expect and the book delivered. But it wasn't like in your face all the time; which was nice. The scenes were even fun.

What Pleased Me:
The realness of the emotions coming from Grace. She is funeral director in a small town. I grew up and still live in a small town, AND people do talk. Even people you think are you friends. So, her "habit" of paying for sex does not seem too outlandish. I mean, come on... we all know in a small town, who would want to date the person living with the dead. Men are freaky that way. And especially being that she is "the son" her father would want to take over the business, she is doing the best she know how to do.

What Displeased Me:
There is really nothing (even looking at the book now) that I could find that displeased me at all about it. The writing style of Megan Hart, I fell in love with. So... sorry... there was nothing about the book that I did not like. If you find something that you did not like, I would like to hear your thoughts on it, please.

Cover: Can you say OMG!!! I mean... come'on!!! My hubby even commented on it... He asked if I was reading the book with the naked guy on the front!!! I said, "YUP!" I love the simple colors: white... then the background black. I love the fact that it is the hotel door that takes up the cover... leaves you wondering what is to come.
