Interview & Giveaway with Lori Brighton

Please raise your glass or bottle for a welcoming toast to a wonderful author...

**Ms. Lori Brighton**

Welcome to the Lair again, Ms. Lori! It is always a pleasure to have you here. You know the drill - make yourself at home! May one of the Tribal Men get you something to drink or snack on?

**Cecile lightly slaps Lori's hand and snickers**

Now Lori, you know you get Those snacks after the interview silly woman!

Now where were we.... Oh yeah... How have you been?

Great! Excited and a little nervous. I think most authors are a little nervous when they have a book out.

What have you been up to lately?

My favorite things: writing and traveling! We just went on vacation to St. Augustine, Florida, which was amazing. And right now I’m working on two new books, both Contemporary Paranormals. And of course having a child keeps me very busy!

Let's talk about your new release..... Ghost Hunter...

(**for those of you that did not come yesterday,

please go -->> here to check out my review of Ghost Hunter**)

Okay, now give me your story for GH. Because I will tell you - you had me struggling between two men for a while. **Looks around the Lair** Not that that is a problem mind you, lol.... But man, you literally pulled out all the stops on this one.

I was struggling too! I was leaning toward one man for my heroine Ashley. But honestly there were times when I wasn’t sure who I would pick, or should I say who she would pick. These characters really
do have a mind of their own.

Here’s a blurb!
When Ashley Hunter inherits the Inn where her father mysteriously vanished years ago, she jumps at the chance to finally uncover the truth about his disappearance. But soon after taking ownership of the decrepit building, Ashley realizes she’s in for far more than she bargained. Not only has she inherited answers to many sought-after questions, she’s also inherited spirits, demons and even fallen angels! Then Cristian arrives, a gorgeous man who insists he merely needs a room to rent. She believes him, until one by one her ghosts start disappearing... As a fallen angel destined for a life of servitude, Cristian Lucius is relegated to protecting earth from unwanted spirits. But he can’t accomplish this daunting task alone. He requires assistance from the very woman who frustrates him as much as she intrigues him. Cristian is determined to ignore his intense attraction for Ashley, and focus on his mission. If they don’t work together, they won’t have a chance in hell of defeating the demon threatening their lives. The problem is getting Ashley to trust him. No easy task, considering Cristian is the very man responsible for her father’s disappearance.

This truly is an awesome story. I mean what you did was kinda like gather all the Disney princesses together, put them in one community and made them co-exist and help each other out. Only you did this with the paranormal world. And what I really love is that they (or some) really didn't want to help. What did you think of that?

It’s funny you mention Disney because I came up with this idea while on The Haunted Mansion ride at Disney World. But as for the imaginary town where The Ghost Hunter takes place….you’ll find a variety of paranormal beings, but you’re right, they don’t want to be involved. They want to be normal, which is sort of how Ashley (my heroine) has been. Ironically in the end she is the one trying to talk the townspeople into embracing their uniqueness; something she had never done herself. Hopefully it shows the reader how she grows as a person.

In GH, you really did a great job at pulling at the emotions in this one. I mean, normally in paranormal reads we fall in love/lust/hate with our characters, but in this one.. you pull at family, reasons we love them or hate them, wanting to soothe and comfort some, wanting to protect others.... Standing back from the book, how do you feel about that?

Our family has a major impact on how we view the world and ourselves. Especially our parents. They can give us confidence, or, in Ashley’s case, make us feel as if there’s something wrong with us. I do know a few people who are gay and the way Ashley’s mother is trying to make Ashley change, reminds me a lot of how some parents treat their gay children. So definitely things I’m going through or see in the news, has an impact in what I’m writing. Even if it’s not totally obvious to me, sometimes I’ll realize it later on.

Now this is a very important new release because this is your first self publishing book. Tell us what does that means to you as an author and us as the readers?

Hopefully, the only thing it means to the reader is that it’s only available in ebook format. I hope it’s still as well written as my two NY published books! As for me, it’s just another way to get my books to the public. Publishers are very, very limited in what they can print. A lot of good and interesting books get rejected because there isn’t room on the market, or just because of silly things. One editor wouldn’t even look at The Ghost Hunter because she said books with ghosts won’t sell. Imagine working on a book for 6 months and it being rejected! Before, if a book didn’t sell authors would just set it aside. Now, we have the opportunity to publish on our own. But as I mentioned, I am a little nervous about the book. Of course I want it to succeed, but whereas I had a publishing company to help me with my debut, this time the success of my book is totally dependant on me. Scary!

Do you think that this book will turn into a series?

You’re hearing it here first…

Omg... I am sooooo doing the happy dance!!!! **News**Here**First**!!!!!

I have started a second book staring Devon, a secondary character in The Ghost Hunter. Still not quite sure where it’s going, we’ll see. But I’m excited! A lot of people who have read The Ghost Hunter have also mentioned liking Camile; another secondary character. You will see her again in this second book and I have a little surprise in store!

OMG...... Devon gets his own story... Woooohooooo!!!! Okay, I will calm down to ask another question... What you have coming up next? (Pst... if you look on my side bar you will see, hee hee)

Wild Desire will be out in March! It was a really, really fun book to write. Very adventurous. It’s a historical paranormal and the hero is Colin, a secondary character from my first book, Wild Heart. I can’t wait until it comes out. I’m really excited about it.

Omg... I cannot tell you how happy I am that Colin is getting his own story! I am wondering if we get to see any Leo in this one??? Notice who I remember, lmbo!!! He is hot.. still thinking about him... whew! Any last words, comments or questions you would want to ask or be asked??

First of all, I love coming by here! Cecile, I adore you, your smuttiness and your tribal men. I’m so appreciative of everyone who has been so supportive. Really, the people I’ve met since becoming an author is the best thing about being published.

Aww, Ms. Lori, you are to adorable! I love having you over here... But I am sure my men love having you here more! Okay, you know you do not come to the Lair and escape the quickie session - believe me, you made me wait for my hot sexing in GH.... I am going to try to make you squirm just as much...

**evil laughter is starting to fill the room.... wicked glean in Cecile's eye.... hehehe**

The questions will be mixed due to Halloween this month and my bday!!! Hot, hard Alpha or
Alpha! Although in real life I’d probably want to slap one. I mean really, demanding and brooding, how long would we seriously put up with that? lol

Vampires or Werewolves? Leaning slightly toward Vampires. As I said in another interview, Werewolves would be leaving hair all over and constantly licking themselves.

Demon or Angles? Angels! There’s something very sexy about someone so good!

If you had one power, what would you posses? Hmm, healing others would be great. Actually, I have a healer in my book, Wild Desire. But I’d probably have to pick teleporting as I love to travel. It’d be great to just jump to other countries.

If you had one birthday wish that would truly come true.... what would you wish for? World Peace? Not! A cottage by the beach!

What is your favorite Halloween Costume (you didn't have to wear it, lol)? Lol, we had a Halloween party one year. I wore a medieval, velvet dress that was beautiful.

What has been your best birthday present ever? Oh god, at this age I try to forget my birthday! I do have to say though that now that my son is old enough to pick things out for me, I always love to see what he’s bought.

What do you give out for Halloween? Chocolate!

Whip Cream or Chocolate Syrup? Both!

Hard Candy or Soft Candy? LoL, as long as we’re really talking about candy here, soft.

Hot and Wild or Soft and Sweet? Both! No way you can pick just one.

**Okay... Cecile looks around... I'm starting to think that the Tribe has slipped in their own questions in here.....**

Lucien is my all Hot, Hard Alpha!

Okay boys... Ms. Lori is turning bright red... Ms. Lori, I want to thank you for taking time out of your busy schedule to come and sit a spell with us.... Cecile turns her head... and sees Lori running off with one of the Tribal Men... They are delicious!

Now for thing you are all waiting for....

  1. OMG, what a very creative story line!

Did someone remember to tell Hollywood that ghost don't sell?
    "I see dead people"

LOL...I have to agree with Lori about publishers. You're writing has to fit into their BOX or they won't take it. Which is sad because I do think the readers are looking for out of the box stories...I think readers are looking for author told stories and are tired of the cookie-cutter stories that keep getting published year after year.

Publishers say they want something different but when you give them that you get silly excuses like "Ghost don't sell."

I wish you great luck with this book Lori, and may you sell many many books!

I have to pat Lori on the back for pub'bing her own book! I like her attitude!

Great interview Miss Cecile! As ALWAYS wonderful job and sooooo out of the box than the normal interview...no wonder your blog is a heavy hitter! :-)

    Big hugs

  3. I'm cheering about the self publishing!! For us readers from oversees it's sometimes difficult to buy the NY published books, especially in e-format. So far, Smashwords has welcomed us as a purchaser!
The Ghost Hunter sounds fascinating and I'd love to read it, so please count me in.
    Great interview, ladies! :)

  4. Um... 'oversees'? I meant 'overseas' of course...

  5. Great interview ladies!! The storyline sounds fantastic and, of course, the characters do as well!

I agree with everyone else so far, good for you for deciding to self publish! I don't think it's right that a person's dreams and passion come to a crashing demise at the opinion of one, or a few people.

I wish you the best of luck in the success of your book... I mean series! :) It sounds great!

  8. Hi everyone! Thanks so much for stopping by.

Hawk, you're so right! I don't know how many times I hear that editors want different.

Hi Janna! I had no idea it was hard to get books for you. But glad to know that Smashwords works well for you guys.

Hi Tanya! You hit it on the head when you said a few people. There really aren't that many editors out there and when you think about the fact that they have their own likes and dislikes, its not surprising that its so hard to get published by NY.

Thanks so much for stopping by and the mention, Chris!

You guys are so great! I love how supportive you are about self publishing. Its a bit disheartening when bloggers dismiss me without even a glance because I'm self published and it doesn't even matter to some that I've had a book out with a NY publisher. But oh well, that's why we have wonderful, supportive bloggers like Cecile!

  11. glad I took the time to read this because it sounds great. Its different from what I've been reading with paranormal, yet it still paranormal =) Sounds like a romance but with all the cool mystery to keep your nose glued to the book. I'd love a shot at winning this. I also liked where you came up w/the idea for the book. I love that ride at disney.
