Okay, Ladies... I have a few questions for you to answer...
1. Do you like reviews that are short (meaning they give the bear minimal information) or do you like it to be a little thorough (give thoughts and opinions of characters and story)?
2. What do you want from a review... to know the readers thoughts on it, what they would rate it, where to buy it, authors site info... things like that?
3. What are some things you have always wanted to blog about... but never did?
4. Do you like to be informed when you visit someone else's blog... like up coming books, new releases, contests... new hot guy photos (Ms. M has the best)?
Just a few of thoughts that were on my mind... and since it is Friday and I DO NOT feel like working... I figured I would ask a couple of random questions...
Hope everyone is planning on having a wonderful weekend!!!
I wish I had a face to go with this body... Was having a hankering for a firefigher!
I like things to be short and informative. A little about the story, some reader's opinions, information about future/past books, add the ratings in the mix and spice it all with a recommendation :)
ReplyDeleteI rarely have time to read too complicated reviews (no matter how good they are)
This is a good post. Personally, I like shorter reviews..or at least reviews that give more opinion then summary of the book. This is something I go back and forth with myself. I am still messing around with the length of summary vs length of thoughts on a book review. I want to know thoughts, and where to buy, and definitely author website.
ReplyDeleteI love to hear about contests, upcoming book releases, any tibits or hints from authors about their upcoming books.
And of course hot guy photos...that is a given ;)
Cecile!!
ReplyDeletePass that hottie this way!! Wowza.....although I need to stop thinking this way about firefighters because I think my son is going to be one.....he is in the FD Explorers right now!
As for reviews......I like them both ways, I like short but then again I like more detail and longer reviews too.
I love to know what the person who reviewed the books thinks, I almost always depend on what others think about a book to decide if I'm going to buy it!
Something I'd like to blog about but haven't..........good question! I love to visit blogs that have nothing to do with books....mostly cooking or simple living blogs. Some days I just want to post a great recipe or share pictures but I haven't....so far!
MsM has great hotties and I would really miss them if she didn't share them! I depend on Anna to share her huge list of upcoming releases for each month too!
Not to write a huge novel here but I love hearing and reading what all of you are reading, for as much as we all love to read, we all have different interests and I've discovered so many new authors/genres that I would have never picked up if it hadn't been for all of you!!
Happy Friday Cecile! :)
Thanks you guys.. I am just trying to decide how best to set up my site to be both informative and fun and hot! And personal to me. I like my reviews as well... but sometimes I think them a bit long, but I love the information. Like I would be missing something if I didn't tell you what I thought...
ReplyDeleteHost ~ Thanks for the thoughts. I will keep that in mind. Short, informative.
Mandi ~ Okay... so I am not the only one weighing reviews here. I mean, I still want to do what I love to do and how, but I want everyone to read it as well!
I wish I had more time to be online looking up information...
Blanche... I am blushing here thinking of your son becoming one of the mnay men I researched for this picture... Wow!
Okay... so something off the mark of books... different.. that is what I like to hear!
Thanks you guys for the input!
Great post Cecile. This is the first time today that I've been forced to use my brain. And I'm at work too! :)
ReplyDeleteHmmm....How do I like my reviews? I like both options. And I offer both in my reviews. I have the lengthy version which gives character and plot detail in regular font. Then I provide, for those that want it quick and to the point, a bold section which is just my straight thoughts on the book.
I know, my reviews can get pretty long. Barbara has a theory though. She's says that the more I like a book, the longer the review. lol! I think she's right. There's plenty evidence of it anyway. :)
I definitely want links to author websites but I don't need links to online bookstores. I have my go to faves. And I love seeing contest alerts and upcoming release info. And who doesn't want hot guys??? lol!
What I would like to blog about but haven't....? I don't have an answer to this one. I'm not a very creative person so that's why my blog it pretty much reviews and contest/covers/excerpts alerts. I pretty much stick to books. My real life is pretty boring and I figure that people don't want me to go on about how I spent another day on the couch. People no doubt already have this image of me as a big fat blob! lol!
But anyway, that's my take.
(((hugs))) VFG
OMG I LOVE THE FIREFIGHTER!!!! I hae a thin for firefighters, lol.
ReplyDeleteAnyhow, on to your questions...
1. Do you like reviews that are short (meaning they give the bear minimal information) or do you like it to be a little thorough (give thoughts and opinions of characters and story)? Personally, it depends on if I like the cover or not. I know that sounds insane but it's true. If the cover hooks me, I want a good review. It can be long or short as long as the reviewer gives me what I need to know to decide whether or not to buy the book.
2. What do you want from a review... to know the readers thoughts on it, what they would rate it, where to buy it, authors site info... things like that? I like all of the above.
3. What are some things you have always wanted to blog about... but never did?
Personally, what you see on my blog is pretty much what you get :P
4. Do you like to be informed when you visit someone else's blog... like up coming books, new releases, contests... new hot guy photos (Ms. M has the best)?
I like the hot guys that's for sure, lol!! But yeah, I've found alot of great books I might not have known about by visiting other's blogs.
BTW, MsM's hunks ROCK!
ReplyDeleteI also like short reviews, and I want the reviewers true opinion of the book, if they don't like it I'd rather it say that and be honest without nastiness and also a rating system. I also appreciate content warnings i.e. violence, child abuse, that sort of thing.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great post! Glad you were bored at work LOL.
1. I like both, sometimes short ones give you all what you need. And then there are long ones that really make you think
ReplyDelete2. The thoughts about the book, I need nothing more than that
3.....I honestly have no idea
4. hehe yes I like it all. I like to wander around the blog and look.
1)I like reviews that are a bit longer - what the reviewer as a reader thinks of the book - not so much a summary of the book since I can find that out at Amazon or the author's web site. I'd rather read what the blogger/reviewer thinks of it.
ReplyDelete2) All those things *g*
3) Since I've blogged about both underwear and toilet paper - I don't think there's anything I won't tackle ;-)
4) Upcoming books are always nice. Chances are I've already heard of them but every so often one has escaped my radar and then I see it on a blog. Hot guy pics - I don't not like them - I have red blood and I'm normal. But part of me just sighs in sadness knowing they will never be mine
This is a great post query! I love your reviews-short or long. The best part is that some of these books you've mentioned or highlight on your sidebars I've passed over in the store until reading your review or recommendation. Between you, VFG and MsM-my TBR and TBB have quadrupled-I expect to read a ton this summer while the kids hang out at the pool. So you just keep doing what you do! It's all good!
ReplyDelete:)Lisa
PS: oh, and the hot guys-they sure don't hurt!
Thank you - you guys!! I will keep what you have all had to say here and make it work... and work with my personal style!!!! I love the honesty that we all share together!!! We had quiet a weekend... I will be checking everyone's tomorrow!! Hope you all had a great weekend!!
ReplyDeleteI like short reviews. Mostly I want to read what you thought of the book. I figure if the blurb isn't going to hook me then neither is a detailed overview of the plot. And sometimes long reviews gives away too much of the plot. I'm mostly curious if the book was liked or not!
ReplyDeleteYes, I like to be informed about upcoming releases and contests. Sometimes a book will slip past me, so it's nice to see others posting when books are releasing.
I hope your week is going well!
