Because I have a very special guest with us today....
I would like to welcome to my party...
Ms. Kimber Chin!!!

YAYAYAYAYAY****clapping*****YAYAYAYAYAY

I am so glad that you could make it to my party Ms. Kimber!
How have you been? I hope well!!!

What is coming up for you, Kimber?
My next book release is Flawless, Tavos' story. Tavos was my knife wielding vigilante in Invisible. Tavos is a bad, bad man and he doesn't become an angel just because he falls in love. Hopefully, readers will understand why he is the way he is. Oh, we love our tortured heros, right ladies!!! And Tavos sounds like our kinda of man.... I remember him from the Invisible story. Ladies, if you have not read Ms. Kimber's books (in whatever print you can get your hands on...) you must do so now!! Now, I must tell you that Tavos is a bad ass in that story as well, but he does put his heart in what he does!!!

What has been your favorite book to write?
Invisible

Why?
Invisible was my I'm-never-going-to-get-published-so-I'll-write-whatever-I-want book. I didn't think it would be published because it is different with a very different and damaged heroine. From now on, that's what I'll be writing. Selling Forever was written for my Mom. Breach of Trust was me trying to write for a publisher (Harlequin, if you can believe it – yes, stop laughing, Cecile!).
**I promsie I was not laughing!! =)**
You'll likely see more angsty books like Invisible from me with damaged characters.
***oh and do we like angsty... right ladies...***

If you could take any "fairy tale" and put your own spin on it, which fairy tale and what would be your spin?
I am a big, BiG, BIG Beauty and the Beast fan. I love the idea of taking something/someone the world finds hideous and seeing the beauty in it/him. People who can do that have a gift. If I were a paranormal writer, I'd love to write a heroine who could see people as they are on the inside. So a beautiful but spiteful woman would be ugly. A plain but kind woman would be dazzling. She'd likely fall in love with a scarred, loving Prince. Live happily ever after. Maybe live in a tower. Raise unicorns. That sort of thing.
***oh, ears perk up at the sound of a story like this.... you might want to keep this story, so you can expand later!!!**

What do you like/love about your birthday?
I prefer other people's birthdays to my own because I prefer to give gifts than receive them. I like having the excuse to invite everyone out. Eat cake. Get people together. Eat cake. Did I mention eat cake?
**cake, you mentioned cake... your house or mine, and I know HAWK will bring the wine...lol**

What is your favorite season?
Spring. LOVE spring. I love when the snow melts and there are tiny rivers everywhere. I drop twigs in those rivers (the sewer maintenance people must love me) and watch them travel along merrily. I wonder where they'll end up and if someone far away is seeing the twig pass by and thinking 'dang kids, throwing junk in the water.' LOL
**I have always wondered how them damn twigs got in there...**

What has been your most memorable present?
Heirlooms definitely. My mom gave me a set of 'pearls' (I doubt they're real pearls) that she gave to her grandmother for making her dress. I wore them on my wedding day and I've already lent them out to one sister to also wear on her wedding day. Like Hagen, my hero in Invisible, I love the stories behind objects. If you walk around our home, we could tell a story about everything in it.
***Now, I love the sound of that... a story behind something. I wish there were more things like that in this day and age...***

When is the last time you dressed up for Halloween? What were you?
Ummm… are we NOT supposed to dress up for Halloween?
****Yay, a woman after my own heart!!! Why do we stop dressing up...???****
In the country, everyone dresses up. It is a meet the neighbors type of thing. One person will stay home and everyone else treks around, dressed up, and yapping. We'll have 80 year old trick or treaters. Now that I live in the city, I give out candy, usually dressed up as a gypsy (I have my Mom's tambourine, she used to folk sing when she went through her flower child stage). I give out the best candy, chocolate bars, chips, rockets, and stickers! Kiddies love the stickers!

If you were not writing, what would you be doing? The hubby and I travel. I watch the stock market go up and down, up and down. I read a LOT, at least one romance novel a day (I speed read so it sounds like a lot but isn't). I do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight, get down tonight.

Scary movies - yes/no? If yes, what is your favorite?
Not a big fan of scary movies but since my brother writes horror scripts (none yet produced), I watch quite a few. Yeah, the things we do for the people we love. I watch them through my fingers 'cause you know serial killers can't harm you if they can't see your eyes. Favorite scary movie? Lets just say my favorite Halloween movie is Young Frankenstein. I watch it every year. ***I agree with you... I thought the normal way to watch a scary movie is with a blanket over my face with my fingers laced over my eyes, lmao!! Hubby loves and I mean LOVES scary movies. So, he makes me endure them. Thinks he is building character in me, yea right... I talk through the whole thing... I yell at the stupid woman going up the stairs that someone is there waiting for her... or that is not the way to leave a house with someone with a knife after you... LMAO!!! So, needless to say that I can not go to a movie theatre and watch a scary movie, they would kick me out, lol!!***
Igor: You know, I'll never forget my old dad. When these things would happen to him... the things he'd say to me.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: What did he say?
Igor: "What the hell are you doing in the bathroom day and night? Why don't you get out of there and give someone else a chance?"

Do you like haunted houses? Have you ever been in one?
Because I travel a lot, I've supposedly been in quite a few haunted houses. I've slept in hotels and inns and private houses where ghosts have been spotted. Although I didn't see those myself, I have seen a few ghosts (I think – you can never be sure of these things) I talk about one such encounter here… http://thewritersvineyard.com/2008/10/dead-and-traveling.html

Good morning Cecile and Ms. Chin,
    Great post.
Its hard to narrow down to one favorite book for 2009.Considering I read diifernt genres. So I guess
Prey from Rachel Vincent is right up there and Beth Keri's Sweet Restraint too.

Wowsers, some great, great reco's already today. I'm always looking for great new reads.

Cecile, thanks for the big shout out. Your posts always make my day and now... I'm in one of your posts. Love it.

    Blodeuedd,

Biting Nixie was a surprisingly wonderful read. I love a book that makes me laugh on almost every page.

    Mandi,

Ohhh... I've been hearing great things about Friday Night Bites.

    Leontine,

Yes, another Beauty and the Beast lover! Give me a scarred, tortured hero anytime (Tavos, my hero in Flawless, is scarred and tortured).

I gotta pick up A Mermaid's Kiss. Heard great things about that novel also. So many romances, so little time.

    elaing8

Oh, are you having a challenging day? I'm passing you my drink (I like Fuzzy Navels so Cecile picked the exact right drink pic for me).
Hugs, girl, and I hope your day picks up!

    Chris,

Yep, Butterfly Tattoo is a MUST read. Definitely one of the best contemporary romances of the past year.

  8. Hi Cecile and Kimber great interview! My favorite book of 2009 so far hmm that's tough but I would have to say it's a tie between Never Love a Lawman by Jo Goodman and An Echo in the Bone by Diana Gabaldon! :)

I'm a huge Beauty and the Beast fan myself that story is just timeless isn't it!

  10. Hi Ms Chin and Cecile!!

I finally found time for blogging!!! YAY!

I loved your interview, too cute! Young Frankenstein is one of my favorite movies and Igor was played magnificently by the Marty Feldman who left us too early.

I could never pick a single favorite book for 2009. I've read too many good books this years, lol!!

I can say that I'm always looking for new authors and I'm willing to try almost any genre.

The book I was holding my breath waiting for was a toss up between Dayhunter quickly followed by Dawnbreaker by Jocelynn Drake, and Kim Harrison's White Witch Black Curse. I love urban fantasy.

Oh, and Ms Chin, I'm a disney gal who loves fairytales, so Beauty and the Beast is a favorite. There are many renditions of this story, but one my favorites is one of Chinese legend, The Dragon Prince.

Please enter me, Biting Nixie sounds good too.

    Thanks!

    Dottie :)

word vefication: comas (comas really, like you have had more than one? lol!)

  11. Oh god, how can I choose? I srsly thought about this for about 10 minutes. It is a tie between Karen Marie Monings Dreamfever and Ann Aguirres Grimspace. I'll have to go with Grimspace since there was no cliffhanger at the end of this book!

That cake make me want to drive to the nearest bakery STAT! Great interview!

  22. I did enjoy Biting Nixie and the next story is out soon. I loved My Forbidden Desire by Carolyn Jewel this year. Also loved Grady's Awakening by Bianca D'arc and The most recent Nalini Singh. I have trouble with just one favorite book right now as you can tell. Also just finished Invisible and really enjoyed every line. Can't wait to read about Tavos.

  24. JennJ,

Beauty & The Beast is certainly timeless. I think there's a bit of the beast in all of us (a lot of the beast in me when I run out of chocolate).

Ohhh... another historical romance lover. That is my genre of choice to read. I can't write it (my style is too modern) but I love escaping into a great historical.

    Deidre,

    Good to see you girl!
Well, since I'm now addicted to The Vampire Diaries, I'm looking at your reco of Vampire Academy with extreme interest. I'll have to check it out.

    Dottie,

Isn't that a wonderful problem to have, having read too many great books to choose a fave? This year has been a bumper crop for great romances. My head is spinning, my heart is pounding, my palms are moist - wait, no, that's Caleb's doing. Me bad

    Smokinhotbooks
Grimspace rocks! And yeah, I prefer no cliffhangers. Patience is NOT a virtue of mine.

Cecile's blog always makes me hungry. So many goodies (of the baked and male kind)

  25. Tricia,

What is it about men forcing their gals to sit through scary movies? Is it because they can play big, strong protector? I suspect it might be.

    Host
Awww... you are a sweetie. I'm glad you liked Invisible. I just heard (a half hour ago) that Released, the companion short to Flawless (Feb 2010), is going to available next week! Woo hoo! I know you're on my contest mailing list so there may be a surprise coming your way! Woo hoo!

    Hawk,

That is a lucky, lucky problem to have. Not being able to decide on your fave book this year. I just finished reading Lisa Kleypas' Tempt Me At Twilight. Yum, yum, yum.

    elaing8,

What is with Cecile monopolizing Caleb? You'd think it was her birthday or something!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Kira,

Authors are all pretty much insane. We spend our days with imaginary people, giving them imaginary problems. The hubby will ask over dinner "How was Tavos today?" or about some other character. I usually have an answer also.

    Patti,

It is NEVER too late to party. Another vote for the Vampire Academy. I will definitely have to check that one out. I've been resisting Seducing Mr. Darcy as I'm a crazy Pride & Prejudice fan.

    Sassy Brit,

Are you looking forward to Princess And The Frog? I've picked up 2 of Princess Tiana's Disney dolls for the Christmas toy drive already. It looks like fun!

    Lindseye,

I can't wait for the next story also. It looks like the prequel to Biting Nixie. (If your name is drawn, of course, we'll sub with another book)

I know you're on my contest mailing list (as a fellow romance lover) so keep an eye out for an email likely next week. 'Cause Released, the companion short to Flawless (Tavos' story) should be out! Woo hoo! A little taste of Tavos before February!

  27. Armenia,
