Book Review: The Last Girl by Kitty Thomas & Winner for Jaye's Book

This is a short novel of approx. 200 pages.
This book will take readers 4-5 hours to read, depending on reading speed.

DESCRIPTION:

Six years ago strangers broke into Juliette’s house; she was home alone and only thirteen. She kept her eyes closed, praying that if she didn’t see anything, she wouldn’t be killed. No one harmed her. In fact, one of the thieves protected her. Now Juliette’s dreams are haunted by him.

Christian has waited to take her, resisting the urge each night. It always ends badly with human pets. They’re too fragile. The longer he can wait, the better, because the moment he takes her, the clock on her life starts ticking down.

Then she’ll be gone forever.

AUTHOR NOTE:

This is a work of fiction, and the author does not endorse or condone any behavior done to another human being without their consent.

Warning: This book is meant for a mature audience and contains master/slave, group sexual activity, sadomasochism, girl-on-girl, oral and anal play, exhibitionism, blood play, edge play, as well as one other thing I’m not warning you about because it would be a spoiler… but it’s not a big taboo.

EXCERPT:
“Do you love me?” It’s out of my mouth before I can stop it. My hand flies to my lips as if I can put the genie back in the bottle, but I know I can’t. It’s too late. The words are already out there, hanging between us like a thick, dark fog.

His eyes widen, and I inwardly groan. I’m so stupid. Such a child. He’s told me he’s not noble and good, that this isn’t some fairy-tale, and yet my mind still seeks to turn it into one. But he’s not laughing at me, and he hasn’t said anything cruel. Yet.

“Oh, Juliette.” He sounds sad when he says it.

What does that mean? I want to rewind back just a couple of minutes and not ask. Please, whatever higher power may be out there, let me have this one boon. Just a minor time travel. It’ll hardly be a blip. I can’t stand this awkwardness. I feel like such an immature child for asking. I wait for him to say something awful or to taunt me, but he doesn’t.

He’s silent for a long while then he says, “You are special to me. I hold you in higher regard than any other human, though that isn’t saying much. I don’t wish harm to come to you, but I know it will. The longer you’re with me, the higher the odds rise in that direction. I don’t think the capability to love is still with me, but I hold out hope I won’t destroy you. Even so, your pain still gives me pleasure, more than the pain of anyone else because you are you. I waited for you so long, got to know you well before I took you. I think it has made some difference. I’m just not sure if the difference is enough or if it puts you in more danger.

Already I can feel the need to take you to the dungeon. There are so many things I fantasize about doing to you, things which will hurt. So, even if I did love you, it doesn’t make you safer with me. The only thing you’re safe from is everyone and everything else. I can protect you from literally anything but myself. Pray that I don’t love you, Juliette. I’m scared of what will happen to you if I do.”I

For those of you that know me... and those that don't this is my little statement about short books.... I do not judge short stories on the rush of their relationships, because they are just that - short stories. So, yes the relationships always could have been drawn out more, yea it seems like they fall in love to fast and of course the story could have been made longer... but it is a short story. So with that said.... here is my review..

Now I will tell you guys - if you didn't know - that I love Kitty's work. She is an author that will push you to your limits, pull you through the suspense, and tease you till the end of your rope. She is just that good. Her stories are not for the faint of heart... If you are looking for a sweet, light fluffy romance... You will not find it with her. You will find love, but it will not come easy. You will find a happy ending but it will not be conventional. This story is no different.

Since this is a short story, I won't give away to much... Juliette and Christian's story has a little twist on it because Christian is a vampire... An old and powerful vampire. He is use of always getting his way but with Juliette, it will be different... It will push him beyond his boundaries... He does something that he never really wanted to do but knew that it was inevitable...

Their paths were meant to cross and their lives were meant to be entwined.

I will tell you that Juliette and Christian will give you a story you won't forget... With a beginning that will shake you and an ending that will leave you feelings as if there could have been no other ending for them.

This story was gripping, page turning and heart stopping. Literally. Kitty another awesome story!!!!
