What does your family think of you writing erotica?
My family doesn't know. My husband does, of course, and my kids know about the m/m. They're cool with it. My oldest daughter knows about the BDSM, too, and it freaks her out. Can't say that I blame her. I, too, was conceived by a virgin and will argue quite vehemently with anyone who wants to suggest otherwise. ESPECIALLY by my own TMI mother. (Don't want to know, ma. I really, really don't.)
What would you tell a reader reluctant to read erotica?
"Don't knock it til you've tried it, dude." And then, I'd rec something soft and light as an easy intro.
Is there any topic you find taboo?
Yup. Answering questions about my sex life.
What role do you think toys play in sex?
In my stories, I don't use a lot of toys and tools. I think, especially in BDSM, that it's too easy to get lost in the toys and the kink that you lose sight of the relationship and the journey. I use toys sparingly inside my books because I want to make sure that laser-focus is on those characters, what they're feeling and thinking. Toys are like salt, best if used lightly. Too much can ruin the soup.
Do you think food has a place in sex?
In fiction, sure. I don't recall at the moment if I've ever written a scent that included food, but that can be very sexy.
What do you think of role play?
I may be willing to write it someday. I haven't yet, though.
What’s your favorite ménage trios: M/M/F, M/F/F, M/M/M, or F/F/F?
I like reading (and writing) M/M/F and M/M/M.
What do you think of orgies?
I don't see myself ever writing one. Just not my kink.
What’s the spiciest thing you can think of right now?
Wasabi sauce. :D
What do you enjoy the most about being a writer?
World-building. I love creating new places inside my head and waiting for characters to show up to live in them.
What do you find the most challenging about being a writer?
Time management. I have a part-time day job, but I also volunteer a lot in my community. Add in husband, home and kids...There just aren't enough hours in the day. Which is why God, in all His wisdom, gave us caffeine in all its wondrous forms.
What genre(s) do you write and why?
I write contemporaries, fantasy, paranormals, AU and BDSM. I love the world-building in each. Yes, you can world-build in contemporaries. If you aren't world-building in contemporaries, then sorry, as far as I'm concerned, you're doing it wrong. A contemporary setting does not forbid nor preclude building a community around your characters.
What's the one thing you wished you had known about the publishing world before you got into the biz?
Published authors and are industry professionals are people just like everyone else. And just like everyone else, some will be extremely cool...and others will happily grind your ass into a lovely pate and serve you for lunch.
Are you a plotter or panster?
A combination of both. I start out with a basic outline, but I revise it at the halfway point when I can see more clearly how the journey to The End is going to play out.
Any advice you’d like to share with aspiring authors?
Don't quit. Keep writing. Keep learning and growing in your craft.
Do you have any other hobbies that you enjoy?
Zombie flicks. I loves me some zombies.
What inspired you to pen this sexy tale?
I went back home to visit family and ran into a guy I went to high school with. The guy was brilliant, was being past tense, sadly, because drugs have seriously eroded his grip on reality. Anyway, the guy was telling me about how the government was using genetically engineered crops to dope the masses to make us more docile (not kidding), when I got the idea for Collared.
What’s the one thing readers can always count on when they pick up a book written by you?
If you could be any mythical/fantasy creature what would you be and why?
A creature I created that I haven't written a story for you yet, LOL. Sorry, I can't tell you about it, that creature is still too germinal and...bizarre. It's a creature that can manipulate darkness, let me just say that. Very magic-y. RAWR.
What do you think is sexy?
A man, hair (preferably blond) mussed, barefoot, no shirt, worn jeans with the top button undone...RAWR.
Here’s the blurb for Collared:
- Trans-Global IT director Connor Witt is a rare and prized anomaly: the aggression centers in his brain have been suppressed rather than stimulated by the mutated crops that so recently took over the world’s food supply. Bewildered by his physical changes and terrified of a world growing more and more predatory, Connor risks harassment and worse until Trans-Global CEO David Martin collars Connor to protect him against men like security consultant Emmett Drake. Men who stalk Connor as sweet, sexy prey. Men to whom the newly submissive Connor feels irresistibly drawn.
- But David can’t be Connor’s master; David’s straight. He promises to find a worthy man, though. One willing to court and appreciate Connor as more than just some rich man’s toy.
- While the world adapts to the biological disaster and new laws strip away Connor’s rights, David’s resolve to protect his boy slowly grows into something more. But can his new desires keep pace with Emmett’s determination to claim Connor?
- One man offers safety; the other is a safer bet. Problem is, Connor’s never sure which is which. The one thing he does know? He wants them both.

Great interview. I would think that letting family know about writing erotica would be hard. I know most of my family would be judgmental if they knew I read it. Oh well, when they buy it, they can choose it, lol.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the giveaway! I hope you have a safe & wonderful holiday season.

ReplyDeleteI think creating your own world is defiantly something to love about being an author/writer. I have an overactive imagination and think of the most impossible things. One day I'd like to be able to write it out and introduce everyone to my crazy worlds but for now I'll happy fall into yours. xD

ReplyDeleteAnd yep, Catherine, I have a m/f (vamp) paranormal (What Rough Beast) in my back list. If m/m is something you think you *might* want to try, I also have a m/m/f menage contemporary (Lovely Wicked) that might float your boat. :D
